In 1985, in a modest workshop in Kathmandu, our grandfather threaded his first needle with a vision that would span generations. He believed that everyone deserved clothes that fit not just their body, but their personality and aspirations.
He named his shop “Modern Tayari Poshak Udhyog” – a promise to bring modern tailoring to Nepal while honoring traditional craftsmanship. Word spread quickly. Businessmen, government officials, and families began seeking his expertise.
As decades passed, his children and now his grandchildren have carried this legacy forward. In 2020, we launched Suitmandu to serve a new generation of Nepalis who appreciate both heritage and contemporary style.
Today, when you visit our workshop in Maharajgunj, you will find the same dedication that started it all. The sewing machines may be newer, the fabrics more diverse, but the heart remains the same – a family committed to making you look and feel your best.

Hari Bhakta Darji is born in Soti village, Bajhang. In a time with no commercial economy, he supports his family through the Balighare system, stitching clothes by hand using needle and thread and preserving traditional tailoring skills.
Despite poverty and lack of access to education, Hari Bhakta Darji passes his tailoring skills to his sons, who learn the craft while also pursuing basic schooling, laying the foundation for a multi-generational profession.
Facing harsh realities in the hills, the Darji family migrates from Bajhang to Mahendranagar, Kanchanpur. Hikmat Darji begins stitching clothes on footpaths and shop verandas, often renting sewing machines on a daily basis.
Modern Tailor is established in Mahendranagar’s 3rd Galli, marking the transition from roadside tailoring to a permanent shop and the beginning of a formal business journey.
Modern Tayari Poshak opens its branch at LN Chowk, Dhangadhi. Hikmat Darji relocates to lead the expansion, supported by his brothers, strengthening the brand’s regional presence.
Modern Ladies Fashion Zone is launched at LN Chowk, expanding services into women’s tailoring and fashion while diversifying the brand’s offerings.
Modern Tayari Poshak Suitgadhi is established at LN Chowk, focusing on premium suiting and modern tailoring for formal and ceremonial wear.
Modern Institute of Fashion Design Technology Pvt. Ltd. is established in Dhangadhi under CTEVT affiliation, with the aim of producing skilled manpower for Nepal’s tailoring and garment industry.
Human Choice Tailor is launched at Kailali Pul, continuing steady growth and strengthening local accessibility to quality tailoring services.
Suitmandu opens in Putalisadak, Kathmandu, marking the brand’s entry into the capital city and introducing its tailoring heritage to a wider urban audience.
A new branch opens at Maharajgunj, Narayan Gopal Chowk, strengthening the company’s presence in Kathmandu with modern facilities and services.
The Attariya, Kailali branch is launched, reinforcing the brand’s strong footprint in western Nepal and improving regional reach.
